Health And Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Acton Health and Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Acton is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, visitors and contractors. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with professional deep cleaning activities and related services delivered at residential, commercial and specialist premises.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, protect health and minimise risk arising from our work. We aim to identify, control and where possible eliminate hazards connected with cleaning tasks, chemical use, equipment operation and site access. We strive to comply with all applicable health and safety legislation and recognised industry standards relevant to cleaning operations.
Health and safety considerations are integral to planning and delivering every service. We expect all persons engaged in our activities to share this commitment by working safely, following agreed procedures and reporting any concerns immediately.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with senior management, who ensure that appropriate resources, training and supervision are in place. Managers are responsible for implementing this policy within their areas, carrying out risk assessments, monitoring performance and reviewing safe systems of work.
Supervisors must ensure that staff are competent for the tasks they undertake, understand the risks involved and comply with all safety instructions. They are required to check that equipment is serviceable, personal protective equipment is used correctly and incidents are promptly recorded and investigated.
All employees and working partners have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must follow safe working procedures, use equipment as instructed, wear required protective items and immediately report hazards, accidents, near misses and defective equipment.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Deep Cleaning Acton conducts suitable and proportionate risk assessments for its activities, including deep cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, post-build cleaning and specialist sanitation tasks. These assessments consider the nature of the premises, client requirements, access arrangements and any vulnerable persons on site.
Findings from risk assessments are used to create safe systems of work and method statements that detail the correct equipment, chemicals, protective measures and step-by-step procedures. Staff receive clear instructions on how to perform tasks safely, and these procedures are reviewed whenever work practices or locations change.
Chemical Handling and COSHH
The use of cleaning chemicals is controlled through an appropriate assessment process. Safety information for all substances is obtained and used to identify hazards, control measures and emergency actions. Only approved products are used and they are stored, diluted and applied in line with manufacturer guidance and company procedures.
Staff are trained in safe chemical handling, including correct labelling, dilution ratios, ventilation requirements, safe disposal and what to do in case of spills, splashes or accidental contact. Personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles or masks is provided where necessary and must be used as instructed.
Equipment Safety and Maintenance
All cleaning machinery and tools, including vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, steam cleaners and powered equipment, are selected with safety in mind. Equipment is inspected regularly, maintained in good working order and removed from service immediately if any defect is identified.
Employees are trained to use each type of equipment safely, to check leads, plugs and accessories, and to avoid creating trip or electrical hazards. Only authorised and competent persons may use specialised or high-powered machines.
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment is issued where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. This may include gloves, aprons, eye protection, masks, safety footwear or other items appropriate to the task.
Staff are instructed in the correct use, fitting, limitations and care of their protective equipment. It must be worn whenever required and replaced promptly if damaged, contaminated or unfit for use.
Working On Client Premises
When operating on client premises, Deep Cleaning Acton staff must respect and follow any local health and safety rules, access controls and emergency procedures. Particular care is taken to manage slip and trip risks, ensure cables are routed safely and prevent unauthorised persons from entering work areas.
Warning signs and barriers are used where necessary to indicate wet floors, restricted access or ongoing cleaning operations. Staff take extra precautions in shared spaces, stairways, corridors and entrances to protect both themselves and building users.
Training, Competence and Supervision
All new staff receive induction training covering company health and safety arrangements, incident reporting, emergency actions and site-specific rules. Task-specific training is provided for deep cleaning methods, safe chemical use, manual handling and equipment operation.
Refresher training and toolbox talks are delivered at appropriate intervals or when procedures or products change. Supervisors monitor competence, correct unsafe behaviour and provide additional guidance when needed.
Manual Handling and Ergonomics
Manual handling risks are assessed for activities such as moving equipment, lifting waste bags, handling furniture and operating machinery. Staff are trained in safe lifting techniques, the use of trolleys or other aids and methods to minimise repetitive strain.
Heavy or awkward loads are avoided where possible, and teams are encouraged to share tasks or seek assistance rather than attempting unsafe lifts. Work is organised to reduce unnecessary bending, stretching or overreaching.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported to a supervisor as soon as possible. Records are kept, investigated and reviewed to identify causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Staff are informed of emergency arrangements including first aid, fire procedures, evacuation routes and how to raise the alarm while working on client sites. They must cooperate fully with emergency services, building managers and company representatives during any incident.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
Deep Cleaning Acton monitors health and safety performance through site visits, inspections, incident analysis and feedback from staff and clients. Findings are used to improve risk assessments, procedures and training content.
This policy is reviewed periodically and whenever significant changes occur in legislation, operations or working practices. Updated versions are communicated to all relevant persons so that health and safety standards remain effective, current and aligned with the professional delivery of our cleaning services.
